In the trunk of an old silver maple by my back deck. The opening is at the crown where the main trunk and upper limbs meet about twelve feet above ground. A one and a half inch knothole appears to open into a cavity about 12 x 18. This swarm arrived April 1 2006 . The bees were noticeably smaller and of a darker coloration than locally managed hives (at that time)
