Located in wall of unoccupied rural store building. Hive entrance is located about 7 ft. above ground close to the upper corner of the main entrance under a porch roof. Size of colony is unknown. Has had consistent activity since at least 2002 (when property was acquired by current owner).
Building is timber frame construction dating from ~1870s and is slated for restoration at a future date funding permitting. At some point the colony will need to be removed when construction begins but is OK for the time-being. Building is located adjacent to a state route with increasing amounts of traffic but is still rural with decent bee forage. The property where hive is located consists of 3 acres and is used for agricultural production (herbs fruits edible flowers). The owner plans to establish managed hives on the property within the next year or two.
