Wild honeybee hive near Pembroke Pines, FL

Reported November 13, 2009 · Coordinates shown rounded for hive safety

Hive built in our back yard using a NC gourd as a base to build on. Hive arrived in 3/09 - built up hive to hang off gourd to within 3 feet of ground - about 4 or 5 rows of hive roughly 4 feet from top to bottom. In our back yard on the right by our fence opening toward the back.

"The hive lost part of it's bottom in a wind storm. Lots of bees died on that piece. Ants took up residence underneath hive immediately. Rest of hive looks sickly - a brown substance is covering part of a section of the hive that was uncovered by the big piece that fell. I'm very concerned about the health of the remaining bees. The hive has decreased greatly in number and what is left is apathetic. I want to buy medicine and put it out for these bees because I'm afraid they are just spreading the disease they have."
