"TWO COLONIES!! #1 Base of dead 20 locust tree 10 feet inside of NE corner of woodlot. Previously a feral colony (3 yrs) did not survive Feb 09. Current colony is swarm arrived Mar/Apr '09. Entrance is 6 above ground shaded and overgrown. Activity as of Sep 09 is weak. #2: Scarlet oak 24alive but dying former squirrel cavity 25' high open edge of woodlot facing east. Colony is 3rd 2008 (late June) swarm from locust tree #1 above. Cavity is packed with comb. Beginning June 09 colony has ~1000 bees surrounding round entrance hole fanning constantly. Bees remain outside even at night!! Activity as of Sep 09 is strong. Great for observation and photos! 540-249-4063."
