This is a hive that was in a tree that fell through my house on Jan. 7th 2009... Hive is in a log about 6 feet long and about a foot in diameter...
I was aware of them in the tree before it fell and had grown concerned about how some of the bees were acting... The tree fell and as part of the clean up the section of branch was cut out and left in my backyard... Since then the log has continued to lay in my backyard and the bees have really come into their own... The sick bees seem to have died off and the remaining bees are very active and allow me to get very close to them while taking pictures.
