NOT LOOKING TO HAVE THE BEES REMOVED!! We live in a large two story mansion that was built in 1904 with six white 25 foot west facing columns and we have two hives -the oldest active for 40 years or so is in the top of the north column a second newer hive is in the top of the third column from the north. The north column hive died out last fall and has been slow to recover or find new bees but seems to now (5/25/2011) be going gangbusters as usual. The bees are not aggressive. An old pest control man in town reported to me that he had seen them there 30 years ago (said that in 2001). We rent the home so I have no authority to remove or repair damage from a removal project. We are happy to share the building and the homeowners aren't anxious about it either. Our yard always has one of the first blooming azaleas in town. http://digital.lib.ecu.edu/192
